Laser Eye Surgery

Interested in LASIK but told you are not a good candidate? Several alternatives to LASIK are available to help you have better vision.

LASIK laser eye surgery removes tissue to reshape the cornea allowing light to focus properly on the retina. Glasses or contact lenses perform the same function. And while the idea of ‘throwing away your glasses’ is certainly appealing, LASIK simply is not the right solution for everyone. For those who do not want to or cannot wear eyeglasses, contact lenses are a great option.

Continuous Wear Contact Lenses

Continuous wear contact lenses offer an additional dimension of comfort and convenience beyond wearing glasses. FDA-approved for up to 30 days of continuous wear, these lenses offer the same great vision as LASIK in a hassle-free product that is safe, effective and convenient. Today’s newest contact lens material, called silicone hydrogel, allows more oxygen to permeate the lens for healthier corneas and a reduced risk of infection.

Cherry Creek area laser eye surgeon Dr. Stuart Lewis says, “Silicone hydrogel is a breakthrough in soft contact lenses, allowing six to seven times more oxygen to pass through the lens than other contact lenses.”

Corneal Refractive Therapy

Corneal Refractive Therapy (CRT) is a non-surgical refractive technique that temporarily corrects nearsightedness with or without astigmatism and is most appropriate for:

  • Mildly nearsighted children or adults.
  • Individuals who choose not to wear glasses or contacts during the day.
  • Individuals with no eye-related health issues.

CRT uses a therapeutic lens that reshapes your cornea while you’re sleeping with the goal of reducing your dependence in wearing glasses or contacts during the daytime. Simply put the lenses in at night when you go to bed, and your corneas are temporarily reshaped during the night. Remove the lenses when you wake up and go about your daily activities without glasses or contacts. Optimum vision generally occurs within 14 days with nightly use. Risks are minimal and the majority of patients have great results.

Dr. Lewis and his team at Cherry Creek Eye Physicians and Surgeons are experienced in performing a wide variety of vision enhancement alternatives. If LASIK will not provide you with your best vision, we’ll help you carefully choose the right alternative to enhance your vision based on your unique eye care needs, including these options:
